Wipeout graffiti in your community

Graffiti tagging is no stranger to San Antonio's urban and residential areas. Drive just about anywhere, and you'll see the spray-painted images and "signatures" on the sides of buildings, fences, utility boxes, you name it.

The City of San Antonio's Housing and Neighborhood Services Department, in an effort to gather community support to clean up graffiti in our neighborhoods, has declared Sept. 18 and 25 Graffiti Wipeout Days.

Families, civic groups, churches, schools, businesses and individuals interested in participating just need to follow five simple steps:

Step 1: Register online at www.sanantonio.gov/graffiti.
Step 2: Select a wipeout day
Step 3: On the day of the event, check-in at the pre-assigned paint and supply pick-up location. Site clean-up will take place from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Step 4: Return any leftover paint or supplies to designated drop-off area.
Step 5: Enjoy the Volunteer Appreciation and Awards Luncheon from noon to 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 25 at Mateo Camargo Park, 5738 Castroville Road.
