Extreme Makeover: Home Edition comes to South Texas, builds home for wounded warrior

More than 3,000 volunteers and hundreds of contractors spent a week building a spectacular, ranch-style home just outside Floresville, Texas, for a wounded U.S. Army Staff Sergeant and his family.

The build, conducted by crews working with the TV show, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," was part of a thank you to Staff Sgt. Shiloh Harris, who was severely injured while on patrol in Iraq in 2007. Despite his injuries, Harris, along with his wife Kathreyn, help other injured military members through the recovery process.

NOWCastSA was invited to the final day of building and, along with other members of San Antonio's social media community, documented in various ways the day's events, including filming of the moments when Harris and his family were presented with their new home. The final show is expected to air on KSAT 12 sometime during the Christmas season.

Below is a slideshow of my favorite images from my time on the site as well as links to videos and photos from throughout the week. Here's a collection of stories from throughout the week at KSAT.com. Randy Bear (@rbearSAT on Twitter) has photos from the build on Saturday morning. Luis Sandoval (@LuisSandovalJr on Twitter) has a video showing the landscaping and scene from Saturday morning as well as a great photo of the huge American flag flying over the work site.

This video of the "final reveal" to the Harris family was shot by Jennifer Navarrete of the Social Media Club of San Antonio. Jennifer, also known as @epodcaster on Twitter, has six audio interviews from throughout the week.

We would like to thank Jennifer Navarrete and the people of Social Media Club-San Antonio once again for including us in the social media coverage of this great effort.
