Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon to host Texas budget public forum

State Rep. Ruth Jones McClendon, D-San Antonio, will be hosting a public forum to discuss possible measures to reduce Texas' projected $27 billion budget deficit during the 2001 legislative session.

McClendon, whose 120th District covers most of San Antonio and Bexar County's East Side, announced the Thursday, Feb. 10 forum in a robocall received by a NOWCastSA staffer on Sunday, Feb. 6. The forum is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., according to the call.

"Cuts this deep will affect each and every one of our families," McClendon says during the call, which you can listen to below.


The message, recorded by McClendon, talks of the projected $27 billion budget deficit and asks for the listener's input at Thursday's public forum in the Heritage Room of St. Philip's College at 1801 Martin Luther King Drive. Also expected to attend Thursday's forum is Raymund Paredes, the state's Commissioner of Higher Education. He is expected to share his thoughts and ideas for reducing the budget at the state's higher education facilities, according to McClendon's call. An official within the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board confirmed Paredes' scheduled appearance.
