WATCH THE REPLAY: The final two candidates in the race for San Antonio's Council District 1 are meeting in a candidates' forum sponosored by multiple neighborhood associations.

What was once a race of five candidates is now down to the final two in San Antonio's Council District 1.

Civil-rights attorney and music producer Diego Bernal (left) led the field with 40.54 percent of the vote while Ralph Medina (right), a retired San Antonio Fire District Chief, finished second with 28.44 percent of the vote. Both candidates are expected to attend a candidates' forum hosted by multiple neighborhood associations within District 1.

As we did with the first candidates' forum in April, NOWCastSA will be streaming the event, scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m. 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, at Mark Twain Middle School at 2411 San Pedro Avenue.

The forum is being organized by the Alta Vista, Beacon Hills, Downtown Residents' and Shearer Hills/Ridgeview neighborhood associations.

The only other council district needing a runoff election was District 7, which covers a wide swath of San Antonio's northwest side. U.S. Naval Reservist Cris Medina, who received 48.16 percent of the vote, will compete against former District 7 Councilwoman Elena Guajardo, who narrowly secured second place with 19.9 percent of the vote. Guajardo finished with 26 more votes than third-place finished Gloria Rodriguez.

The runoff election is scheduled for Saturday, June 11. Early voting begins May 31 and lasts until June 7. See the times and locations for early voting on Bexar County's elections website. (It's a PDF - JR)

Correction: I was incorrect in specifying the start time of 7 p.m. The correct start time is 6:30 p.m. I apologize for my error. Thanks, Cosima.
