Map: San Antonio National Night Out

Find an event or add an event on this interactive National Night Out map, created by NOWCastSA so you can share and showcase this popular community gathering.

San Antonio has always shown tremendous enthusiasm for the crime and drug prevention event that is held in August in the rest of the U.S. and on Oct. 2 across Texas.

Neighborhood associations, apartment complexes and businesses compete each year for San Antonio Police Department National Night Out awards by hosting block parties, barbecues, potlucks, parades and bicycle rides. The events are scheduled to last from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

To further strengthen community-police partnerships, SAPD helps the Night Out organizers by sending mascots and police officers to neighborhood events.

This year, NOWCastSA created an online interactive map for groups to list their events. You can see the National Night Out map on your computer or on your mobile device by going to http://nnosatx.crowdmap.com or clicking on the map below.

Then download the app to your iPhone or Android and start sending in your photos!

Leaders from Government Hill Community Association, Dellview Area Neighborhood Association, North Shearer Hills Neighborhood Association, Tobin Hill Community Association, Beacon Hill Neighborhood Association, Alta Vista Neighborhood Association, Downtown Residents Association, Keystone Neighborhood Association, Edison Neighborhood Association, Central Los Angeles Heights and Vance Jackson Neighborhood Association said they will be participating in the project.

The project is free and open to the entire community.

On National Night Out, people can participate from smart phones by downloading the Crowdsource app for iPhones or Androids.  This allows people to instantly upload photos to the map.

People can also participate by sending information from “dumb” phones by text message to be included on the map.

National Night Out was introduced by the National Association of Town Watch in1983 as a way of encouraging creation of Neighborhood Watch groups.
