After welcoming remarks by San Antonio Public Library Director Ramiro Salazar, San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg spoke at the event. Speakers also included U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D- 35th District TX) and Dennis Martinez Chair, Latino Leadership for the Library.

Dr. Tomás Ybarra Y Frausto, who donated his books to the collection, also made remarks.



According to the San Antonio Public Library’s website, the newly opened center includes:

  • Writer’s Workshop and Conference Room
  • Lecture and Programming Space
  • Visible and inviting entrance to the Center
  • Research and Study Area
  • Gallery with artworks from Drs. Harriett and Ricardo Romo
  • Three study rooms: the Vexler Study Room; the Scholastic/Barrera Room and the Henry Munoz Room
