Early in the day on Saturday, Sept. 10, more than 275 people will gather, shotguns in hand, on a hillside near San Antonio’s western edge. In teams of five, they’ll take turns firing at sporting clays in the 18th annual Vulcan Materials Funshoot, a competition to benefit the Cancer Therapy & Research Center at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio.

Updated Sept. 5, 2012: San Antonio Food Bank and Whataburger launched the 3rd annual SA Goes Orange, a month-long campaign designed to encourage everyone in southwest Texas to "Go Orange" and take action to fight hunger during September, Hunger Action Month.

Admittedly, I haven't spent much of my own time taking initiative in keeping San Antonio clean, which is why I jumped at the chance to do a little volunteer effort and paint over graffiti on park benches as part of the launch of a city effort to promote graffiti cleanup.

Early on the morning of August 30 -- very early for this writer --  the city kicked off its Graffiti Wipeout Volunteer Days program for the month of September by inviting members of the media to volunteer their time covering graffiti.

SAN ANTONIO (August 30, 2011) – Urinary incontinence is a common problem that can be worsened by cancer and some of its related therapies. But many treatment options exist for incontinence, and that is the subject of the next free public lecture at the Cancer Therapy & Research Center at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio.
