On Saturday, May 14, Campbell Soup Company will join forces with the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) to provide assistance to San Antonio families struggling to put food on their tables every day. This year letter carriers representing nearly 1,500 local branches of the postal union will collect food donations along their postal routes. These donations will be used to replenish food banks and pantries in more than 10,000 communities.

In observance of National Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Awareness Month, Girls Inc. of San Antonio will host a teen led 2nd Annual Teenage Pregnancy Prevention Press Conference and Documentary Screening on the realities of teen parents on Tuesday, May 10 at 5:30 PM at Girls Inc. of San Antonio, located at 1209 S. St Mary's Street.

San Antonio teenagers kicked off a ME NOW, Baby Later campaign, designed to reduce the area's teen pregnancy rate, which is nearly double the national average.

At a news conference in the San Antonio Central Library, teens and community leaders discussed the statistics, the cost of teen pregnancy and ways to combat the problem.

Experts say one of the most important ways to decrease teen pregnancy is to connect teenagers with effective after school or summer programs and activities.

The "danger zone" or prime time for teens to engage in risky behavior, including sex, are between 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., when many teens are unsupervised after school.

I first learned about packs of dogs living at San Jose Burial Park the day after Easter, when my friend Trina Howard called in a panic asking for help. She told me about a story that aired on KSAT 12 about mangy strays roaming the cemetery, bothering visitors, and she wanted to do something about it.
