Dear Fellow Parents, Students and Friends,My name is Irene Berns and I am a parent and a student in Michael Gravitt's keyboard and percussion classes. My daughter Samantha is in sax, piano and keyboards. We have been in the city music programs for six years and we are heartbroken that classes will not resume next week. I have started a " Save the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Music Program" campaign and I'm asking for your help.

Most of the people who signed up to speak at a public hearing with District 8 Councilman Reed Williams expressed content with the way funding is currently being spent in San Antonio, with only a few focused on certain aspects of the budget and potential cuts.

San Antonio residents gave impassioned pleas to city officials about the city's proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year.About 60 people gathered Monday, August 22, at the Alicia Treviño Lopez Senior One Stop Center for the District 6 public meeting about the proposed budget. Officials representing city departments were there to listen to reactions to the proposal.

Telling the story of his one semester as a substitute teacher at Jefferson High School, San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro told teachers preparing for the upcoming school year that he knows the impact they can have on students. He also implored them to continue their push toward making the city's education system top-notch.Castro gave a brief speech to teachers on Tuesday, August 16, at Carlos Coon Elementary in the Northside Independent School District, praising them for their work and talking up the SA2020 initiative.
