21st Annual Walk for Life

The 21st Annual Walk for Life will take place on Saturday, Sept. 17 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Woodlawn Lake Park, 1103 Cincinnati.

San Antonio AIDS Foundation (SAAF) is walking for the cause on the 30th year of AIDS in America and SAAF recognizing 25 years of service.

San Antonio, Texas—Hundreds of participants from across the city will converge on Woodlawn Lake Park on September 17th for the 21st Annual Walk for Life benefiting the San Antonio AIDS Foundation (SAAF). Last year over 500 people gathered together and in 2011 organizers are anticipating a significant increase in attendance.

"This year’s Walk for Life if pretty significant to us since this year marks 30 years of AIDS in America plus we are also recognizing our 25th anniversary of SAAF being open in the community”, says SAAF Executive Director David Ewell. "Events like the Walk for Life provide an essential source of funding for the work we do here. Our services cover many areas such as in-patient skilled nursing and hospice, education and our transitional housing facility, to name a few."

The Walk for Life brings together individuals and teams to a festival-like setting along the banks of Woodlawn Lake. Guest emcees are Karen Martinez and Ted Garcia of KABB/Fox-29 and Crystal Stone of C-Stone Entertainment. There will be musical performances and activities by the Alamo Rampage, and more.

This year Citi is once again providing generous funding as the Presenting Sponsor. "Citi has been remarkably supportive of SAAF and the Walk for several years. We feel that their participation helps build awareness of HIV to a broader community," says SAAF’s Deputy Executive Director, Jill Rips.

Other supporters include Gold Sponsor: Valero; Silver Sponsor: University Health System; Bronze Sponsors: Frost, Garza Pharmacy and Tibotec. Media sponsors are QSanAntonio.com, the San Antonio Current and Ignite Magazine.

"This is a day for family, friends, co-workers and even pets to join in and support SAAF while promoting community awareness," says Ewell. "We invite everyone to come out and join in this fun and important event."

The Walk for Life begins at 8:30 a.m. on September 17 at Woodlawn Lake Park with registration and submission of collected donations. The Walk begins at around 9:30 a.m. and takes about an hour and a half to complete. The event concludes with a closing ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Those interested in participating can get all the necessary information and forms at WalkForLifeSA.org.
