Information from press release:

San Antonio Metropolitan Health District’s Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) and the Mayor’s Fitness Council (MFC), along with its partners Palo Alto College and the Neighborhood Resource Center, will hold a series of free neighborhood walking group workshops throughout San Antonio.

Walking is an excellent form of physical activity and the leading choice of exercise for Americans. Walking groups provide an opportunity for members to get to know their neighbors, offer support to one another, and increase access to physical activity. Along with the MFC and its partners, CPPW has established a “train the trainer” model for Neighborhood Walking Groups.

The workshops will be led by Palo Alto College Kinesiology students who will train neighborhood volunteers to start walking groups in their neighborhoods. The workshops will consist of tips for selecting a route, safety tips, walking tips for beginners, tips on keeping members motivated, as well as tools and resources.
