Noche Azul de Esperanza featuring the music of Juan Gabriel

Juan Gabriel, a famous Mexican vocalist, has sold over 30 million copies of his albums throughout the world. He is one of Mexico’s most famous living representatives of the Mexican ranchera, ballad, mariachi and contemporary music. Azul, song writer, instrumentalist and vocalist, continues her ongoing monthly concert series on Saturday, August 20th and will honor Gabriel by singing some of his most endeared songs at the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center. Azul’s own romantic renditions and Mexican ranchera style will help you recall the place and time when you first heard Gabriel’s songs.

A musician originally from Mexico City and now local to San Antonio, Texas as the artist in residence for the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center, Azul performs traditional Mexican and Latin American songs, working to conserve and develop the folk music that she was first introduced to as a child. Having learned and continuing her study of the rhythms and stories of previous generations, Azul rejoices in her Latina roots and gives life and meaning to the narratives of Latin American history by highlighting the many cultural influences and interconnections between Latin America, Africa, Spain and Mexico.

The café-style performance will begin at 8pm at the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center, 922 San Pedro 78212. Suggested donation is $5, mas o menos and concessions will be sold.
