Momentum is building for ChildSafe’s 2018 Cardboard Kids campaign, a community-wide effort to heighten awareness of child abuse and neglect, an issue that continues to plague Bexar County. C

ardboard Kids are memorable two-foot high cardboard kid cutouts that citizens PICK-UP, DECORATE and DISPLAY on April 5. ChildSafe is asking the entire community to be a part of this campaign to help them reach their goal of displaying 100,000 Cardboard Kids in Bexar County!

Cardboard Kids will be distributed free to the public March 2-3 and March 9-10 at San Antonio area malls; Fridays 1 pm – 6 pm and Saturdays 10 am – 6 pm, at the following locations:

  • Ingram Park Mall – lower level outside of Dillard’
  • North Star Mall – lower level under the escalators leading up to the Food Court
  • Rolling Oaks Mall – lower level by the main entrance
  • South Park Mall – near the Food Court

Citizens are asked to join in this effort by: Pick up a Cardboard Kid at an area mall during a distribution weekend. Decorate the Cardboard Kid while talking to your kids about child abuse and personal safety. The Cardboard Kids’ website has tips for how to talk to children about personal boundaries and safety.

On April 5, take your Cardboard Kid wherever you go and display it in a prominent spot. Take a photo of your Cardboard Kid, or any others you see in the community April 5, and share it on social media using #cardboardkidsSA to begin a dialogue about this pressing issue.

Child Advocacy Centers such as ChildSafe have experts on staff who perform forensic interviews so children only have to tell their stories once, provide crisis intervention, case management services, counseling, and advanced therapy to aid in the healing of child victims.  And they work with law enforcement and prosecutors to bring perpetrators to justice.

Cardboard Kids is made possible by the generous support of Valero Energy Foundation.
