Financial fitness workshop for military families

Information from a press release:

A free workshop designed to encourage military service members and their families to make smart personal financial decisions – to reduce debt and save money – will be presented by Security Service Federal Credit Union on Thursday, Feb. 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Holmes High School auditorium, 6500 Ingram Road, in San Antonio. The program is part of the Military Saves program, sponsored by the Consumer Federation of America and the Department of Defense as part of the DoD’s Financial Readiness Campaign.

Speakers include Shamzy Romero, SSFCU service center manager, and Mike Martinez, senior vice president for member services. In addition to learning about debt reduction, automatic savings plans, resources and free services, attendees will be entered to win a $250 Visa gift card, $150 HEB gift card, and a $100 Valero gas card.

The workshop serves as a early kickoff to Military Saves week, to be held February 19-26.

Military Saves seeks to develop a military command climate and overall culture that supports prudent financial behavior by creating a focus on financial literacy education and counseling; supporting the availability of bank and credit union incentivized savings products, especially regular (automatic) deposits, systematic increase in amount of deposits, and advance planning for purchasing and investing; and encouraging service members and their families to take “financial action” to improve their financial well-being.
