Joe Lopez: Del Corazon (From the Heart)

Kelso Art Center/Semmes Gallery
4301 Broadway St
San Antonio, 78209
March 10, 2017 - 6:00pm - 8:00pm

With an irrepressible sense of ethnic identity and love for the subtle aspects of his cultural traditions, Lopez paints life.. real life; children at play, street vendors young and old, people doing simple everyday things. With the delicate feel of watercolors, he portrays intimate scenes sparked by simple ideas. His work reveals a deep emotional compassion for the Chicano working class. Besides his cultural paintings, he is also well known for his Dia de los Muertos artwork, and his fascination with “El Gallo” as a symbol that represents strength, beauty and courage. Having been born with only one hand has added to his sensitivity to life and given him the incentive to utilize his talent. He believes strongly about what he paints, that's how he reaches the viewer.
