Willow City

Again this year Science Research and Design students from SAISD’s Lanier High School will participate in the SystemsGo aeroscience project, which is endorsed by NASA and certified by The Space Foundation. For the first time they will send two rockets up into space – Blue Lightning and Voknova. The Lanier team will be among students representing more than 60 high schools statewide at this site near Fredericksburg (Hillview Ranch, 4259 Rural Rouse 1323 Country Road, Willow City). Rockets will be launched every 20 minutes with the order determined that day.

According to the SystemsGo web site, Lanier High School will be among 10 schools launching 19 large rockets on Sunday. Students designed and built the rockets in their classrooms over the course of the school year, and the launch is free and open to the public.

The goal of SystemsGo is to promote engineering studies and research, develop work force skills, and encourage students to enter academic and career paths in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields that lead to careers in the engineering industries.
