The City of San Antonio announced today plans to address City regulations regarding the feeding of the homeless that supports charitable feeding in a safe manner. The plan was presented to the City Council’s Housing Committee this morning following a review of best practices, current regulations and input from to stakeholders.

Updated: District 8 Councilman Ron Nirenberg proposed moving San Antonio municipal elections to November, which he said could increase voter turnout by 300 percent or more.

Speaking at University of Texas at San Antonio Civic Engagment Summit on Oct. 5, Nirenberg said the move would require a change in the City Charter and state law, and the November date "could have a profound effect on student participation."

The Center City Development & Operations Department (CCDO) is now accepting proposals for the OPEN Downtown Pop Up Shop at 531 Navarro. The selected vendor will receive a 90-day, no-cost lease beginning Nov. 15 through Feb. 15 in the Houston Street Garage storefront. Proposals should be no longer than six pages and be submitted by the Thursday, Oct. 15 deadline. A complete list of program requirements can be found at opensanantonio.com.

A new report written by groundwater hydrologist, George Rice, uses the state’s own Groundwater Availability Model to predict that the Vista Ridge water supply project would drop water levels and hydraulic (water) pressure hundreds of feet in the Simsboro and Carrizo aquifers.
