As San Antonio continues to strive towards No Kill, Animal Care Services is participating in a nationwide effort to mark similar lifesaving efforts. Thursday, June 11, ACS will join hundreds of pet agencies throughout the country in observing “Just One Day” to advocate for shelter adoptions and eliminate the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable pets.

VIA is updating its Long Range Comprehensive Transportation Plan under the banner of “Vision 2040,” which is an effort to plan for the mobility needs of people living and working in the greater San Antonio region through the year 2040. VIA’s role in Vision 2040 is to examine ways to provide public transportation options that can enhance people’s ability to move around and easily access everyday destinations.

A little-noticed law signed last week by Gov. Greg Abbott mandates syphilis testing of pregnant women in the third trimester. The additional test helps prevent infants from being born with congenital syphilis and gives them a real chance at living syphilis-free.

For three years, Krystal Sanchez coordinated South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) drives for her San Antonio employer, donating and encouraging colleagues to join her.

“I never thought I would become a patient who would need a blood transfusion,” she said.

But that changed earlier this year when Sanchez underwent an emergency cesarean section. Afterward, she felt so weak she could not hold her baby.
