Do I have to take the trash out over the winter holiday?

There will be no pickups on Tuesday, Dec. 25 or Tuesday, Jan. 1. If your trash is usually picked up on Tuesdays, it will be collected on Wednesday, Dec. 26 and Wednesday, Jan. 2.

City Hall and most municipal offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 24, 2012 through Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013.  Public safety and emergency services will remain in operation.

San Antonio Female College was a boarding school that offered formal education for girls. It was once one of the largest all-girl schools in Texas. More than likely, you've never heard of it.

Mrs. Maude White Zachas, graduating class of 1898, later recalled her time spent at the school. "The girls of the school then were called 'guineas,' because of the uniforms we were compelled to wear. We were never permitted to have young men callers. We rarely saw boys except at a distance!"1

Urology San Antonio renamed its cancer treatment facility for the medical group’s founder and former CEO, Dr. Juan Reyna at a ceremony on Nov. 10. The building at 7718 Louis Pasteur Court in the South Texas Medical Center is now the Dr. Johnny Reyna Center for Cancer Treatment.

A dream is now a reality for children on the South Side of San Antonio as their drawings were turned into a new playground on Nov. 10. In less than eight hours, the play space was built at SA Youth’s Petaluma Center with the help of more than 200 volunteers from Foresters, SA Youth and non-profit KaBOOM!. The new playground will serve hundreds of youth and their families in the community for years to come.

In preparation for the 2013 American Housing Survey (AHS) the United States Census Bureau is now hiring part-time interviewers.  The AHS will collect data on the condition and costs of housing for the U.S Department of Urban Development (HUD).
