The Center for Civic Engagement, in collaboration with the Office of Student Financial Aid and Enrollment Services, is launching a unique community-based work-study program called Rowdy Corps. The program is a first of its kind at UTSA.

Rowdy Corps is designed to place students in local nonprofits to complete their required work-study hours. The students will receive valuable applied learning experiences in a variety of agency settings, such as child welfare, arts and culture, public communication, adult education, and environmental impact.

The San Antonio Independent School District is partnering with The Power of a Dream, an organization that encourages youth and teens to pursue their goals and life ambitions.

“The partnership with SAISD and The Power of a Dream is to inspire and engage the youth of San Antonio to become the best they can,” said Eric Castillo, organization director. “The Power of a Dream wants our future generations to know that no matter what your circumstances are or how many fumbles you may have in life, don’t give up because there’s a winner in everyone.”

School will soon be back in session for youth across the city. Unfortunately, there are some topics they won’t be learning about in the classroom. Topics such as bullying, mental health, sex and STD prevention aren’t always discussed openly in schools. That’s why the San Antonio AIDS Foundation (SAAF, “sāf”) created Teen Talk, a website dedicated to providing youth throughout the state with relevant and accurate information about a variety of topics related to their lives.
