Scholarship funds provide bright future for 300 students

The San Antonio Area Foundation, along with support from donors associated with 66 different scholarship funds, awarded $600,000 in scholarships for the 2010-2011 academic year on July 14, in a ceremony at San Antonio College.
Three hundred students received awards ranging from $600 to $6,000.
The Methodist Health Care Ministries George Wray Memorial Scholarship Fund at the San Antonio Area Foundation, is making it possible for Carolina Robles to attend school to become a registered nurse.
“Because of this scholarship, I now have the chance to pursue my biggest dream," explained Robles.

According to a media release by the foundation,
San Antonio Area Foundation scholarship awards are made from individual scholarship funds held at the Area Foundation. Volunteer scholarship selection committees carefully review all applications and select recipients based on availability of funds and the competitiveness of the applicant pool. Following review, the committees make funding recommendations to the Area Foundation’s Board of Directors for final approval.
