Map: Free Summer Food Service Sites

Updated for 2019: Many kids rely on free or reduced-price school breakfast and lunch programs for food, which makes summer a particularly difficult time for hungry kids and families.  Summer feeding programs help fill the gaps to ensure that children in low-income areas continue to receive nutritious meals during long school vacations.

This map helps hungry kids find free food in the San Antonio area.

We hope this map will help you find the food service site nearest to you, and that you'll share it with families who may be in need.  Scroll down to learn more about hunger in Bexar County and the programs that are working to beat it. Summer Food Programs

  • The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a federally-funded, state-administered program that reimburses providers who serve healthy meals to children and teens in low-income areas at no charge primarily during the summer months when school is not in session. According to the Texas Department of Agriculture, SFSP provided 14,334,671 meals to kids at 4,057 sites throughout Texas in 2015.

  • The Seamless Summer Option (SSO) was created by the federal government as a summer feeding alternative for schools that already participate in school meal programs and wish to continue meal service into the summer. Last year, SSO served 6,850,912 meals to kids at 1,715 Texas sites.

  • Summer Food is a Feeding America program administered by The San Antonio Food Bank that distributes meals to housing developments, summer camps, daycares and on-site feeding programs.
