One of the largest dog-friendly community events in all of San Antonio is just around the corner: The Fifth Annual PAWS on the PATIO! This Sunday, Oct. 7 from 1-9 p.m. is when all the fun and festivities happen at Floores Country Store & Cafe, located at14492 Old Bandera Road in Helotes.
The free family event promises to have something for everyone - leashed dogs are welcome with a $5 donation to Helotes Humane Society. There will be lots of music, great food, entertainment, games for the dogs, face painters, games for kids, contests and more. You can even visit the Dog Oasis and get your pet’s nails trimmed.
This year the voting booths are open at Floores Country Store & Cafe to elect the Pawsident. Five independent parties will have their candidates at PAWS on the PATIO for Pawsident to solicit support. Anyone can vote for any of the candidates by making a donation to HHS. The candidate that raises the most money will be named Pawsident during a ceremony hosted by KENS 5 Chief Meteorologist Bill Taylor. Helotes Humane Society Candidate - hhsanimals.org
As the nominee for Pawsident for the Helotes Humane Society, I would like to thank you all for your support. As a young pup, I had a “ruff” start. My owners were naughty and threw my brother and I out of their vehicle while we were driving on the freeway. My leg was broken so bad that it had to be removed, but I haven't skipped a bark!
I want to be a Pawsident for the people. I want hugs and snuggles for everybody. My foster mom thought that I would be a great candidate because I am social, and I love to get out and mingle with the community. I have even taught my Vice Pawsident and foster brother, Herman Munster Hunter, how to be more open to affection.
You can see me with my four legs in a video on the Helotes Humane Society website www.hhsanimals.org. Meet me in person at PAWS on the PATIO and see how I am getting around on three legs with a big smile on my face. Every dog deserves a bone. Throw me a bone and vote for me, Daisy! And remember, "3 paws, 4 paws, we all bark the same!"
San Antonio Nature Hounds Candidate - sanaturehounds.com
As the Pawsidential nominee from the San Antonio Nature Hounds, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Brodie, and as our nominee I would like to say just a few words. I was born in San Antonio, TX in August of 2009. Although I am still young, I have been with the Nature Hounds for almost 2 1/2 years. I have been on close to 430 walks with the Hounds, second only to my friend Cutter who has supported my campaign throughout, and who is in fact my campaign manager.
It was never really my intention to enter the world of politics, but now that I have entered it, I am thrilled to represent you the good people and dogs of the San Antonio Nature Hounds. I really could not have come this far without your support, and I am eternally grateful for what you have done for me throughout this election process. The financial support, the volunteering, the outpouring of inspirational and spiritual support from all of my supporters both here and throughout the United States is truly breathtaking. However, the work we have started is not yet complete. I come to you today urging you to continue to support my efforts to become Pawsident. Me along with my Vice President, Bailey, and my Secretary of Steak, Piper continue to work hard to win the election. However, we need your help.
Many have asked, "how we can help going forward", and I'm here to tell you. Remember the Helotes Humane Society is a great cause, and as your representative at the event I need your support (and donations!) to become Pawsident.
Alamo WOOF Candidate - meetup.com/AlamoWOOF/
Vote for Gump! Alamo WOOF's candidate for Pawsident has been selected is Forrest Gump! Forrest Gump is a founding member of Alamo WOOF and is quite active in the community. Forrest is a rescue - saved from a shelter with his sister at a mere 12 weeks of age. Once safe in his new forever home, he grew into an exceptional working dog. Visiting patients as a therapy dog by day, and learning obedience by night. All the while, keeping that work/life balance by having fun at as many Alamo WOOF activities as possible. And he even comes ready for office with his First Lady (his sister Jenny) and his Vice President (his adopted brother Lt. Dan.)
SA Big Dawgs Candidate - sabigdawgs.com
What could be more red, white and blue than being adopted on the fourth of July! My destiny has always been tied to advocacy and fighting for the underdog and those less fortunate than me. Service has never been a job for me, it has been a joy and an honor. I will take my office seriously. Understanding that while some will see it as cute and whimsical, I see it as a mission. I will work tirelessly to keep street dogs in the home and out of the pound. This is the keystone of the Big Dawgs Independent Party platform.
Remember "Indee" for Pawsident
