San Antonio opens special drop-off site for storm debris

San Antonio opened a special, temporary brush collection site and extended the hours of the main Bitters Brush Recycling Center to help residents cope with the dozens of uprooted and downed trees and brush in the wake of Tropical Storm Hermine.

The temporary residential brush drop-off site is at the San Antonio Material Storage Yard at 466 Culberson Ave. It will be open from Thursday Sept. 9 through Sunday, Sept. 19 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Click here for a map.)

The Bitters Center, located at 1800 Bitters Road, will also be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Sept. 19. (Click here for a map.)

People who bring a picture ID and current CPS Energy bill as proof of residency may drop off brush at no charge. The city said commercial customers may bring brush to the Bitters Center and will be charged the normal fees. For a Bitters Center fact sheet and fees, go to the Solid Waste Management Department's Web page here.

San Antonio residents may also request a special brush collection for a fee based on the size of the load by calling 3-1-1.
