Replay the video: Watch the webcast of San Antonio's first Citywide School Board Candidates’ Forum.
The two-night event began Monday, April 4 and will continue on Tuesday, April 5, and is hosted by Mayor Julián Castro, area businesses and education organizations. It is being moderated by Steve Spriester of KSAT-12 and Brenda Jimenez of Univision.
Video from Monday's event is archived here. We will livestream Tuesday's event seperately.
Monday night's forum at San Antonio College's McAllister Auditorium included 10 candidates from Judson, Northside and Southside Independent School Districts.
Castro said he coordinated the forums to focus light on the races and encourage both voter and candidate participation.
"The governance of our schools is essential to creating a well-educated community," Castro said. "Unfortunately, school board elections have been marked by extremely low voter turnout in the past. This is an effort to change that."
Tuesday night's forum will include 14 candidates from San Antonio, Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City, Southwest and Harlandale Independent School Districts.
The forum was made possible through sponsorship from Alamo Asian American Chamber of Commerce, Alamo City Black Chamber of Commerce, Bexar County Federation of Teachers, Association of Texas Professional Educators, Bexar County School Board Presidents’ Coalition, Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, Leadership San Antonio, League of Women Voters of the San Antonio Area, NOWCastSA, San Antonio Alliance of Teachers and Support Personnel, San Antonio College, San Antonio Education Partnership, San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Voices for Children of San Antonio
