ChildSafe was recently awarded a $6,770 grant by the Texas Bar Foundation for a care coordination team for commercially sexually exploited youth, a problem that plagues children in Texas and especially Bexar County. As a result of this grant, ChildSafe will facilitate the creation of a dedicated taskforce and protocols to better identify and meet the needs of child victims of commercial sexual exploitation.
As leaders in the identification and recovery of abused children and teens, ChildSafe will serve as the project’s regional facilitator to build out a rapid response team in coordination with service providers. Because of the diverse and urgent needs of commercially sexually exploited youth, ChildSafe is committed to utilizing best practices for child survivors’ recovery and restoration.
As a Children’s Advocacy Center, ChildSafe plays a significant role in coordinating evidence-based services for child victims. ChildSafe employs a unique model where a Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) works together to ensure child perpetrators are brought to justice, children and families are safe, and victims receive specialized treatment for sexual abuse. This regional taskforce will serve as an extension of ChildSafe’s current MDT Partnership to meet the special needs of this particularly vulnerable population.
“ChildSafe appreciates the continued support of the Texas Bar Foundation and their efforts to fund programs that target best outcomes for children who have been abused and neglected,” said Kim Abernethy, ChildSafe President & CEO.
Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $18 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation’s largest charitably-funded bar foundation.
For 25 years, ChildSafe has been providing specialized services to children and teenagers who have been sexually or physically abused or neglected. They provide crisis intervention, case management services, counseling, and advanced therapy to aid in the healing of child victims of abuse and neglect.
