Like NOWCastSA's story and help us win a CLASSY Award

NOWCastSA has been nominated for a CLASSY Award, and we need your votes to make it to the next level and take one step closer to the red carpet.

The CLASSY Awards recognize the top philanthropic achievements by charities, businesses, fundraisers and volunteers from across the country. Winners in 12 categories not only receive Internet fame, but also an appearance at a star-filled award ceremony in San Diego and a share of more than $150,000 in cash and prizes for their cause.

All contestants that receive 100 "likes" on Facebook by Tuesday, June 28 (click here and "like us" today!) will move on to the next round, where a panel of judges will narrow the competition to a list of 300 organizations and individuals.  The public will again take the reins July 25 through August 26 and vote to choose the winners in each category.

NOWCastSA has been entered into the Best New Charity category, and will be competing against other nonprofit organizations that have formed since June 1, 2009.

NOWCastSA's mission is to promote and facilitate an inclusive civic conversation.  We do this by empowering neighbors (that's you!) to identify common issues and share information through education, training, community news, events and multimedia.

We provide all of our journalism and training at no charge to the public, and are currently funded primarily by private grants from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the San Antonio Area Foundation, and through subcontracts by the Eastside Promise Neighborhood (funded by a U.S. Department of Education's Promise Neighborhood Grant) and the Ecumenical Center for Religion and Health (funded by a grant from Methodist Healthcare Ministries).

"Awards like the CLASSY can help NOWCastSA move to the next stage of our development as a sustainable nonprofit organization," said Managing Director Charlotte-Anne Lucas. "We've grown a lot since our birth in September 2009 and are ready to show off our accomplishments to potential donors and funders."
