Goodwill San Antonio’s Good Careers Academy is now enrolling for its administrative assistant and nurse’s aide programs to help individuals gain skills that are in high demand in our community.
As one of the fastest growing occupations in the region with over 2,600 new jobs, the 24-week administrative assistant program prepares the student for entry-level employment. Students receive instruction in Microsoft® Office Suite and QuickBooksTM, and will also acquire skills in professionalism, verbal and written communication, office management, supply management and more. In addition to classroom instruction, students will participate in a six-week externship.
Good Careers Academy is also accepting enrollment for those interesting in becoming a nurse’s aide. This 12-week program prepares the student with the necessary skills to successfully complete the State of Texas skills and written examinations for nurse's aide, as well as to enter an entry-level position as a certified nurse’s aide in a health facility.
Nurse’s aide students receive an introduction to anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, infection control, communication and interpersonal skills, safety and emergencies, patients' rights, death and dying, medical law and ethical treatment, basic nursing skills, patient care and computer skills, including basic Microsoft Word training. Consideration is given to caring for the elderly, short-term patient care, caring for surgical patients or ambulatory patient, and caring for the terminally ill.
