Historic Preservation: Essential to the economy and quality of life in San Antonio

REPLAY VIDEO: The City’s Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) unveiled a study evaluating the economic impact of historic preservation in San Antonio. The report titled Historic Preservation: Essential to the Economy and Quality of Life in San Antonio, was created by Donovan Rypkema, Principal of PlaceEconomics.

The study “reveals historic preservation in general and neighborhoods in particular, are not only compatible with the goals of SA2020, but are an indispensable component towards achieving them,” said Rypkema.

OHP commissioned the study to increase public awareness of preservation’s contribution to economic development. Director Shanon Miller noted that the “results of the study show that historic districts are a model for smart growth. It is about quality of life, economic development, walkability and sustainability.”
