The Center City Development & Operations Department (CCDO) is now accepting proposals for the OPEN Downtown Pop Up Shop at 531 Navarro. The selected vendor will receive a 90-day, no-cost lease beginning Nov. 15 through Feb. 15 in the Houston Street Garage storefront. Proposals should be no longer than six pages and be submitted by the Thursday, Oct. 15 deadline. A complete list of program requirements can be found at opensanantonio.com.
OPEN is a CCDO initiative offering local business owners the opportunity to utilize pop-up shops in vacant downtown properties. The program activates storefronts by introducing new, creative and temporary retail locations with visual aesthetic. OPEN creates an environment that engages customers and authenticates downtown as a vibrant urban space, ready for long-term investment.
“This is an excellent opportunity for entrepreneurs to test a retail concept in a temporary location without taking on the risk of a long-term lease agreement.” said Lori Houston, Assistant City Manager.
The OPEN program at the Houston Street Garage is part of the City of San Antonio’s effort to elevate the parking experience downtown. Other parking improvements include ticketless payment options, wayfinding signage, art exhibits such as the “Before I Die” wall and other aesthetic enhancements to enrich the visitor experience.
OPEN is supported by the Office of Historic Preservation, Café Commerce and Centro San Antonio. For more information, visit opensanantonio.com.
