SA Youth encourages high school dropouts, ages 16 to 24, to enroll in YouthBuild, a program which offers young adults an opportunity to receive their high school diploma or GED while receiving workforce training and certification in construction. Young adults who participate in the free program attend academic classes for 20 hours per week and participate in construction training for 20 hours per week.

“YouthBuild has had a significant impact on hundreds of young adults, who have successfully completed our program by graduating with their GED and have found jobs that allow them to support themselves and their families,” said Cynthia Le Monds, chief executive officer of SA Youth.

Members who choose to receive certification in construction help build energy-efficient homes for low-income, first-time homebuyers as part of their training, as well as working on other construction projects.

The application deadline is Feb. 20. To enroll, contact Tristan Harris at YouthBuild (210) 223-3131 Ext 256 or send an email to For more information about SA Youth, visit
