SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 25, 2011) – The San Antonio Area Foundation announces today it will move into a new home at Pearl in the summer of 2012. The added space and more accessible location make it possible for the Area Foundation to expand existing programs and initiatives to better serve San Antonio and South Texas. In 2010, the Area Foundation gave a total of $12.2 million in grants and scholarships.

A $5 million gift from the late Robert and Carolyn Beckmann Wells will make it possible for the Area Foundation to move into the new building. The couple made the gift in support of the Area Foundation’s mission of helping donors achieve their charitable goals for the greater benefit of the community. The new site will be named The Wells Center of the San Antonio Area Foundation.

The 18,000-square-foot space at Pearl’s new Lab Building will provide the Area Foundation with an accessible, dedicated space for the Center for Nonprofit Support (CNS). CNS provides support and training opportunities to help nonprofit agencies enhance core skills and program operations so that they can become more effective in serving the needs of the community.

“People in our region have many needs and nonprofit, charitable organizations are addressing those needs, especially at a time when our state and federal governments are making significant budget cuts,” said Dennis Noll, president and chief executive officer of the Area Foundation. “We really want this added space to become a community center for the many nonprofit organizations that are doing so many good things throughout our region.”

The Wells Center will include meeting space for charitable organizations to use for their own individual purposes and for collaboration, as well as for training programs coordinated by the Area Foundation to maximize their impact in our community.

"We are excited to have the San Antonio Area Foundation as the flagship tenant for the latest phase of Pearl,” said Bill Shown, managing director for real estate with Silver Ventures, developer of Pearl. “Their deep commitment to the betterment of San Antonio has made a real difference in the community, and their vision for the future should only strengthen that commitment. This is a great complement to the Pearl mission and we look forward to having them as neighbors."
