The San Antonio Public Library will host a celebration of the 2013 Texas Poet Laureate, Rosemary Catacalos at a reading and reception on Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Central Library Auditorium at 600 Soledad Street 78205. Ms. Catacalos will read from her work following a special introduction by poet, Naomi Shihab Nye. Musicians Aaron Prado and George Prado will also perform and a book sale and signing will take place during the reception. This event is free and open to the public.
Named Texas Poet Laureate by the Texas Legislature in April, Ms. Catacalos is the first Latina to ever be named to this post, and she is the first San Antonian to receive this honor in four decades. Her poems are published widely in textbooks; her acclaimed collection, Again for the First Time (1984), winner of the Texas Institute of Letters Poetry Prize, was republished in a special 30th year edition by Wings Press and was released this summer. Catacolos was the director of Gemini Ink from 2003 - 2012, and is a Dobie-Paisono Fellow, a Stegner Fellow, and is the recipient of many other honors.
This event is sponsored by the San Antonio Public Library, the San Antonio Public Library Foundation, Friends of the San Antonio Public Library and the San Antonio Department of Culture and Creative Development.
