San Antonio Water System’s (SAWS) project to clean downtown sewer infrastructure around Commerce and Alamo streets will begin at midnight, Feb. 1.
Phase 1: Feb. 1 – Feb. 5*
The Downtown Project’s Phase I will begin on Feb. 1 at midnight.
Feb. 1: Two lanes on Commerce St. and one bus lane on Alamo St. will remain closed from midnight until Feb. 5.
Feb. 1: Set up equipment to by-pass existing sewer lines. This includes piping and traffic ramps on Alamo.
Feb.1-4: Cleaning and televising sewer lines.
Feb. 4-5: By-pass pipes and traffic control removed
Feb. 5: Phase I complete
Phase 2: Feb 5 – Feb 10*
Phase 2 is scheduled to start Wednesday, Feb. 5.
Feb. 5-10: Two lanes on Commerce St. will be closed. Losoya will be closed from Crockett to Commerce Streets. Both the Commerce lanes and Losoya Street are scheduled to remain closed until Monday.
Feb. 5: Set up equipment to by-pass existing sewer lines. This includes piping and traffic ramps on Commerce.
Feb. 5-9: Cleaning and televising sewer lines.
Feb. 9-10: By-pass pipes and traffic control removed
Feb. 10: Phase 2 complete
*Note: All dates are approximate and may change.
While the work on the downtown sewer lines will cause traffic delays, businesses and residents in the area can be assured that the sewer lines they depend on have been inspected and cleaned reducing the likelihood of sewage backups and spills. SAWS is under a consent decree with the EPA that mandates the inspection and cleaning of sewer lines in areas around the city.
Six phases of work are scheduled as follows:
· Phase 1: Feb.1-5, Commerce and Alamo streets
· Phase 2: Feb. 5-10, Commerce, Alamo and Losoya streets
· Phase 3: Feb. 10-15, Alamo St.
· Phase 4: Feb. 15-20, Alamo St.
· Phase 5: Feb. 20-25, Alamo St.
· Phase 6: March 1-5, Commerce St.
