At 7 a.m. on Nov. 26, 2017, the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend, workers began removing asbestos shingles from a fourplex at 311 Natalen Street in the Mahncke Park Neighborhood.
While the workers wore protective gear, nearby neighbors were unprepared and unprotected as the shingles rained down and shattered, releasing asbestos dust as they hit the ground.
Although some neighbors called the San Antonio 311 line for help, the crew never stopped working. Watch a video of the workers and hear our questions to the supervisor, who said the house was slated to be torn down on Monday morning:
