Video: San Antonians resist SB4 by launching pro-immigrant coalition

On May 11, 2017, people gathered in San Antonio's Main Plaza where they rallied to resist SB4, Texas' new anti-sanctuary city law. The group also announced formation of the Pro-Immigrant Coalition/Coalicion Pro-Inmigrante.

Speakers included: Anayanse Garza for Vecinos de Mission Trails; Aimee Villarreal for La Raza Faculty Assn., Our Lady of the Lake University; Nina Perales for MALDEF; Olga Garza Kauffman for the Interfaith Welcome Coalition, Sister Jane Ann Slater, CDP, Chancellor, Archdiocese of San Antonio; Barbie Hurtado, RAICES community organizer; Justin Tullius, Attorney with RAICES; Maria Berriozabal, former city council member and community leader, Rebecca Flores, community leader; Graciela Sanchez, Esperanza Peace and Justice Center; Patricia Castillo, P.E.A.C.E. Initiative; Terri Byers, San Antonio Alliance of Teachers and Support Personnel; Danna Schneider, UNITE/HERE; Rev. John Feagins, La Trinidad United Methodist Church, Dan Klein with Temple Beth El and Carol Fisher, San Antonio Progressive Alliance.

The new coalition comes days after C.O.P.S./Metro Alliance pledged to create a legal defense fund for immigrant children in response to SB4. (story and exclusive NOWCastSA video here.)
