Webcast: Opening of Beacon Hill Linear Park

REPLAY VIDEO: City and community leaders gathered to open phase I of the Beacon Hill Linear Park on Feb. 19, 2013.

Beginning as a concept more than 20 years ago, the Beacon Hill Neighborhood Association worked with the city to piece together unused lots into a linear park that runs from Capital Street to Lynwood streets and includes a community garden, playground and shade structures, picnic units, walking trails and a basketball court. Phase II begins this year and will extend the park to Hildebrand Ave.

"What used to be a drainage inlet...turned into a beautiful park," said former District 1 Councilwoman Mary Alice Cisneros who represented the Beacon Hill Neighborhood when the project broke ground in 2011. "Congratulations!"

Diego Bernal, who now  represents District 1 on San Antonio City Council gave credit and a promise to the community. "I didn't do this, I can't take any credit for it, but you have my commitment to see it through," he said.
