In 2010, the City of San Antonio approved $1.8 million in funds to build the additional adoption space.

Friends of Animal Care Services raised additional funds from public donations to make the Brackenridge Adoption and Education Center and Clinic a reality. San Antonio's FY 2013 Budget adopted on Sept. 13, 2012 included an additional $1.5 million in capital funding support, which when combined with a $1 million grant awarded by The Petco Foundation and Petco Corp. has allowed the construction to begin.

The Tuleta Drive site, located across the street from the San Antonio Zoo, is the former location of the City's Animal Care Services center. Construction is expected to be completed in late 2013.
