Webcast: The State of Child Welfare

Replay the video from the live webcast of the State of Child Welfare, an in-depth town hall on Thursday, Nov. 17.

The free community event was hosted by The Children's Shelter in partnership with Texas Public Radio and was moderated  by Shelley Kofler, TPR news director.

The town hall examined the child welfare system using research by the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities.

Then Texas State Senator for District 19 Carlos Uresti, Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai and former Texas Department of Family and Protective Services Commissioner, Judge John Specia discussed the state response to the child welfare crisis and look ahead to the 85th Texas legislative session starting Jan. 10, 2017.

The Children's Shelter President/CEO, Annette Rodriguez concluded the conversation by examining research on what is best for a child who has entered the child welfare system and how to address childhood trauma as a result of chronic neglect and abuse.
