"There is an incredible amount of forward thinking taking place here. whether we’re talking about the business community, universities or some of the federal agencies that exist here in San Antonio."
Hurd told the San Antonio Express-News the hearing was to encourage the federal government to move toward cloud computing.
A statement from the subcommittee said the field briefing was convened "to explore the financial and technological benefits of cloud computing, while also considering the cyber security aspects of transitioning to cloud computing services.
"Additionally, the field briefing will examine the current challenges agencies face in adopting cloud solutions for their information technology requirements."
