World Refugee Day

San Antonio's 5th World Refugee Day was celebrated on June 21 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  at the St. Francis Episcopal Church, 4242 Bluemel Rd.  

The family-friendly event is organized by the non-profit organization, Center for Refugees Services.  "Our center sponsors the local event to raise awareness of the plight of over 42 million refugees world-wide and encourages people to embrace the diversity of cultures that refugees bring to their new homes in the U.S.," said CRS Director Maragaret  Costantino.

Costantino said her organization "promotes the successful community integration of the resettled refugee communities with a focus on educational support, health and wellness, and employment." 

World Refugee Day was created by the United Nations in 2000 to help the miilions of people who leave their country looking for refuge. The event is celebrated worldwide.
