By Ben Olivo, Folo Media Keeping a promise he made while on the campaign trail, Mayor Ron Nirenberg announced today the formation of his Housing Policy Task Force, a five-member group responsible for addressing San Antonio’s affordable housing shortage and for crafting policies that will prevent displacement of residents because of gentrification.

REPLAY VIDEO: Hundreds of people came to San Antonio College on Feb. 8 to attend EnrollSA, an Affordable Care Act enrollment and education event hosted by Univision 41 and many community organizations. Speakers at the event included Cecilia Muñoz, White House Director of Domestic Policy, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, U.S. Rep Joaquin Castro (D-20), U.S. Rep. Pete P. Gallego (D-23), Judge Nelson Wolff, Bexar County, and Monica Navarro, Univision 41.

Young adults, based on recent polls, are unaware of the benefits they can obtain from the Health Insurance Marketplace, one of the major elements of the Affordable Care Act. They dislike the individual mandate which requires that adults purchase a health insurance policy or pay a penalty. The principle of the mandate is that, to enable a few sick people to be in the insurance pool while holding premiums steady, a large number of healthy people need to join the pool.
