Be praised, my Lord, through all creatures.- St Francis of Assisi. Come celebrate the animals that make our lives special. Bring your pet, leashed or crated, to the Headwaters Sanctuary entrance for a special blessing on the Feast of St Francis of Assisi. Not comfortable bringing your pet, bring a photo or stuffed animal. The program will be led by Sister Martha Ann Kirk and the "Arts for Christian Worship" Class.

With temperatures closing in on 100 degrees and triple digits expected for the weekend, local pet owners need to think twice before taking their pets to the lake or perhaps on an errand or two. Our South Texas heat can put your pet at risk for overheating because dogs cool their bodies by panting which is much less effective than sweating. In a bid to host the biggest community spay/neuter clinic San Antonio has ever seen, Animal Care Services is working with a local animal welfare group to offer hundreds of FREE pet sterilizations. Spay Neuter Inject Protect of S.A. (SNIPSA) and ACS are focusing efforts in the 78227 zip code, a target area based on service call volume and the number of documented bite cases.

For two days a year the San Antonio Botanical Garden allows patrons to bring their four legged friends into the grounds for a day of canine related activities. Events include a special lunch at the Carriage House Bistro and an adoption service from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. hosted by the San Antonio Animal Care  Services Mobile Unit.
