A NOWCastSA video documenting troubling asbestos removal in a residential neighborhood has prompted the Texas Department of State Health Services to open an investigation by an Asbestos Program inspector.

At 7 a.m. on Nov. 26, 2017, the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend, workers began removing asbestos shingles from a fourplex at 311 Natalen Street in the Mahncke Park Neighborhood. While the workers wore protective gear, nearby neighbors were unprepared and unprotected as the shingles rained down and shattered, releasing asbestos dust as they hit the ground.
