Pan African Women’s Day 2020 will be a virtual event focusing on the systematic Culture of Violence against African women and girls. They will remember Breonna Taylor, Sandra Bland, Justine Uwa, and thousands of women who have been killed or brutalized by agents of capitalism and within our own community. No justice is yet to be obtained.

Protestors will hold a Black Lives Matter rally, with guest speaker Mario Salas, at Columbus Park before marching to the San Antonio DPS Headquarters and the Bexar County Sheriff's office to protest the negligence, discrimination, and violence demonstrated by the SAPD and within the Bexar County Jail.  https://www.facebook.com/events/309373833420248/

In our ongoing virtual Street Talk series, District 1 hosts various community panelists to discuss issues important to our communities. We begin a three-part series to delve into what the Black Lives Matter movement means in San Antonio and how the community and District 1 can work together. Our first event is themed BLACK. We will focus on discussing the systemic racism Black people face in this city and what can be done for a more equitable tomorrow.

Come speak about your experiences growing up black in America and show your support for defunding the police while learning about local resources those funds could benefit. We have had to move the event from June 28 to July 19 due to the recent spike in COVID cases. we want to make sure we all stay safe while letting our voices be heard.
