Local immigration advocates are elated over the announcement to terminate the remain in Mexico policy by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.  The remain in Mexico policy was a Trump-era program that required all asylum seekers to wait in Mexico for a court date in the United States.  On August 8, 2022, the Interfaith Welcome Coalition held their monthly general meeting where they expressed their joy over the end of the remain in Mexico program.
