Momentum is building for ChildSafe’s 2018 Cardboard Kids campaign, a community-wide effort to heighten awareness of child abuse and neglect, an issue that continues to plague Bexar County. C ardboard Kids are memorable two-foot high cardboard kid cutouts that citizens PICK-UP, DECORATE and DISPLAY on April 5. ChildSafe is asking the entire community to be a part of this campaign to help them reach their goal of displaying 100,000 Cardboard Kids in Bexar County!

ChildSafe distributed 45,000 Cardboard Kids in the community this year as part of its child abuse awareness campaign kicking-off National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Cardboard Kids are memorable 2-foot high cardboard kid cutouts that individuals, civic groups, schools and businesses decorate and display April 7. Now in its third year, the Cardboard Kids campaign was created to engage the community in this critical issue by heightening awareness and activating a dialogue about child abuse and neglect in Bexar County.

Cardboard Kids, ChildSafe’s memorable 2-foot high cardboard kid cutouts, will be distributed free to the public on Friday, March 13 from 1 pm - 6 pm and Saturday, March 14 from 10 am – 6 pm at these locations: Ingram Park Mall - upper level near the Food Court North Star Mall - lower level under the escalators leading up to the Food Court Rolling Oaks Mall - lower lever center court near Guest Services The Shops at La Cantera - center court on the compass star

To kick-off Child Abuse Prevention Month, 5,846 Cardboard Kids will be placed all over San Antonio on April 3—in office lobbies, doctors’ waiting rooms, coffee shops, grocery carts, playgrounds, libraries, and more, and the creators of each Cardboard Kid will share photos of them using social media as part of ChildSafe’s awareness campaign to heighten attention, intervention and prevention of abuse and neglect of children in our community. Each Cardboard Kid represents a child victim of abuse or neglect.

Thursday, April 3. It’s Happening Everywhere! Watch for 5,846 Cardboard Kids on display - one for every confirmed victim of child abuse reported in Bexar County in 2013. As each child victim has their own story, every Cardboard Kid will be unique. When you see one, help ChildSafe build awareness of the problem in our community.
