ChildSafe was recently awarded a $5,000 grant by the Texas Bar Foundation to enhance its Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to expedite services to young victims of child abuse and neglect.

San Antonio leads the state in co-sleeping deaths and has high numbers of child abuse and neglect cases, which prompted local Children’s Advocacy Center ChildSafe to produce a new 25-minute training video titled “Strong & Safe Kids.” The free online video showcases best practices and pertinent safety information for parents and caregivers of infants, toddlers and teens.

Harvey E. Najim announced he is donating $5 million to ChildSafe, Bexar County’s only Children’s Advocacy Center, for a new, state-of-the-art campus that will be a national model for the treatment and care of abused children, at Overland Partners, the architectural firm of record.

On Friday, July 31st, Associate Judge Charles Montemayor of Bexar County’s Children Court, swore in over 30 new Court Appointed Special Advocates to become the voice of our city’s abused and neglected children. This training class began Tuesday, July 13th and carried on for a total of 33 hours covering subjects such as developing cultural competence, domestic violence and the effects on children, as well as how to effectively navigate an adversarial (or court) system.
