ChildSafe is asking the entire community to be a part of this campaign to help them reach their goal of displaying 100,000 Cardboard Kids in Bexar County!

ChildSafe was recently awarded a $6,770 grant by the Texas Bar Foundation for a care coordination team for commercially sexually exploited youth, a problem that plagues children in Texas and especially Bexar County. As a result of this grant, ChildSafe will facilitate the creation of a dedicated taskforce and protocols to better identify and meet the needs of child victims of commercial sexual exploitation.

ChildSafe will officially break ground on its Salado Creek Campus Saturday, Oct. 14, 10:30 a.m., at its new site located at East IH-10 and East Houston Street with friends, partners, and local community leaders. The community is invited to attend. ChildSafe is the only Children's Advocacy Center in Bexar County and provides expert care to children who have been victims of physical and sexual abuse, experienced neglect or have witnessed a violent crime.

ChildSafe was recently awarded a $5,000 grant by the Texas Bar Foundation to enhance its Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to expedite services to young victims of child abuse and neglect.

Harvey E. Najim announced he is donating $5 million to ChildSafe, Bexar County’s only Children’s Advocacy Center, for a new, state-of-the-art campus that will be a national model for the treatment and care of abused children, at Overland Partners, the architectural firm of record.

Technology is improving the world at a rapid pace, but even the most helpful technology can become a problem in the wrong hands. For example, the evolution of the Internet has made it easier to stay in touch through social media and research school projects, while smartphones have made it easy to capture life’s special moments with a candid photo. However, this same technology may also be making children more vulnerable.

ChildSafe distributed 45,000 Cardboard Kids in the community this year as part of its child abuse awareness campaign kicking-off National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Cardboard Kids are memorable 2-foot high cardboard kid cutouts that individuals, civic groups, schools and businesses decorate and display April 7. Now in its third year, the Cardboard Kids campaign was created to engage the community in this critical issue by heightening awareness and activating a dialogue about child abuse and neglect in Bexar County.

ChildSafe, Bexar County’s only Children’s Advocacy Center, held its annual Celebration for Children event at ZaZa Gardens for a night of great food, drinks, fellowship, and spectacular art and activities. According to Kim Abernethy, CEO of ChildSafe, Celebration for Children is a grand fundraising event that celebrates children, their innocence and generous spirit.
