Pathways to Hope is a free city-wide (VIRTUAL) conference that brings the faith community together with the healthcare community to discuss how San Antonio is working to improve the mental health care system, as well as pave the way to recovery for people living with a mental health condition, including their loved ones, families and caregivers. St. Mary’s University will hold its inaugural Conference on Justice and Social Concerns this spring, and the first installment is titled “Stewardship in Science: A Dialogue on Faith and Bioethics.” The two-day program begins Feb. 16. Among the highlights will be the presentation of the Art of Peace Award on Feb. 17 at 11:20 a.m. and the Lin Great Speakers Series at 7 p.m. Both events will be held in University Center Conference Room A.

On Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m, Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) will host its annual kickoff press conference and resource fair to formally launch the city’s free tax preparation service. VITA Volunteer Tax Preparers will be on site to help citizens making up to $60,000 annually file their income taxes free of charge. Showing their support, Chair of the United Way Strengthening Families Issue Council Bill Gold, Councilwoman District 3 Rebecca Viagran, and State Representative Mike Villarreal will attend the kickoff.
